Unlock Status Checking
Regardless of the phone you own, it must be free from any restrictions imposed by your telecom carrier. Some phones are tied to specific mobile carriers and can only utilize data plans provided by those carriers.
In most cases, if you obtained your phone directly from Apple, Samsung, or a physical retail store, it should already be unlocked.
However, if you acquired your device from a telecom carrier, it's likely to be locked. You can contact the carrier to verify whether the phone is locked and inquire about the possibility of unlocking it.
Alternatively, you can independently check if your phone is locked. Please follow the steps below to verify the lock status of your iPhone.
Starting from iOS 14, Apple introduced a feature called "Network Provider Lock" to offer immediate insight into your device's status. To access it, go to Settings > General > About, and scroll down to locate the "Network Provider Lock" section. If your iPhone is unlocked, it should indicate "No SIM restrictions." Any other status suggests that the iPhone is locked.
Alternatively, there's a straightforward method: insert a physical SIM card from a different carrier into the phone and attempt to make a call. If the call connects successfully, it indicates that your phone is not locked to a specific carrier. (Please note that this method is only applicable to devices equipped with a physical SIM card slot.)
eSIM Compatible Verification
- For iPhones, navigate to Settings -> General -> About. If you see the "DIGITAL SIM" option with a 15-digit IMEI below, it indicates that the phone supports eSIM cards.
- For Samsung devices, access Settings -> About phone -> Status -> IMEI information. If you find an IMEI (eSIM) along with a corresponding 15-digit number, it means the phone supports eSIM.
- For Google Pixel phones, go to Settings -> Network & internet -> SIMs -> Download a SIM instead. If you proceed and encounter a window for scanning a QR code, it signifies that the phone supports eSIM.
- For other Android phones, dial *#06#. If the screen displays a "unique identification number (EID)," it indicates that the phone supports eSIM.
In general, iPhone XR and newer models support eSIM, except for mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau. Additionally, Samsung Galaxy models released after the S20 and Google Pixel models released after the 4 typically support eS
